The Smoky Mountain National Park:

Hosting over 9 million visitors annually, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is America's most visited national park. It is a landscape that combines natural and cultural history beautifully. History unfolds before the eyes, emerging from lush forests and rich lowland valleys.

The Smokies are the gateway to everything natural and fun here in East Tennessee. Gatlinburg and Townsend alone have dozens and dozens of hiking trails within reach to the general public which go to up to waterfalls and some of the most gorgeous scenic views you will ever see. There are also driving opportunities like the Motor Nature Trail in Gatlinburg to be able to tour from your car. Make no mistake, despite the roads and easy access, much of the Smokies 500,000 acres are pure wilderness. More species of plants are found within the park than any other area in North America. Over 1,500 flowering shrubs and plants, 124 species of trees and 30 varieties of orchids and grasses can be
found here.

Fishing:

And on the heels of talking about our water systems here in the Smokies, it just wouldn't be a proper outdoor excursion here in the Smokies without a good old fashioned fishing trip. Some of the best angling in the country can be found in the Great Smoky Mountains and the wide variety of fresh mountain stream game fish makes your fishing excursion as memorable as your favorite fishing hole back home.

Anglers 13 years and older (16 and older in NC) need a valid Tennessee or North Carolina fishing license to fish in the Park. The Park does not sell licenses. Check with local chambers of commerce for purchase information. No trout stamp is needed. Fishing is permitted year-round in open waters, from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. Stop by a park visitor center to get a full copy of the regulations and see www.allthesmokies.com/fishing.html (where this information comes from) for more information and details.

Golf Courses:

The Pigeon Forge side of the Smokies accommodates all visitors and their interests and that means golfers can find quite a bit to be entertained here in Sevier County too!

In Pigeon Forge we have the Gatlinburg Golf Course; an amusing concept at first and a high quality 18-hole design with pro shop and food services (among others) following close to it.

In Gatlinburg towards Cosby, we have Bent Creek Golf Course; also a professional quality, mountainous 18-hole adventure with pro shop..

Finally, Sevierville boasts the Sevierville Golf Club (which is definitely in Sevierville) with TWO 18 hole golf courses, Par 70 and Par 72, and a clubhouse featuring food and beverage presentations presented by Chef Adam Tyler.

Hiking:

We saved the best for last, because hikers who come to the Smokies sometimes never leave; far too enamored with the incredible prospects of pursuing their passion in nature through the dozens and dozens of trails accessible here in Gatlinburg and Townsend.

70 miles of the trail pass through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Within the Park's borders, the trail crosses from Davenport Gap near Big Creek on the east to Fontana Dam, N.C. on the southwest, reaching a halfway point at Newfound Gap. It passes near or over several of the highest peaks in the eastern United States. The "AT" winds up over the highlands through grassy balds and descends into the valleys to briefly join other trails.
